Olivia Sullivan
Old North, Isle Rocks

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
For my self-set final project at the Royal College of Art, I responded to elements of psychogeography in relation to my connections to Cumbria, Northern England, from an Anglo-Irish perspective. I created a 'comic panel animation' within an installation connecting industrial and landscape elements of areas of Cumbria, such as Kendal and Ambleside and how it is reminiscent of my childhood.

How was the illustration used:
Graduate Exhibition , photos : Carl Bigmore

How did you make this work:
I used materials that related to my experience and investigative research of Cumbria. I made Kendal Mint Cake sculptures alongside wooden designs of lambs and pagan symbols. These designs represented the influence of the Vikings in the County, Fell and Herdwick native sheep, and the notable sugary treat made in Mintsfeet Trading Estate, Kendal. My animation depicts these Cumbrian elements.
