The National Archives: The Buildings That Made London

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
The National Archives: The Buildings That Made London is bursting with facts to delight both children and adults alike, taking the reader on an exploration through London, visiting some of its most famous buildings. I was asked to bring original architectural drawings from The National Archives to life with my artwork, featuring 29 spreads including an introduction page and a gate fold spread.

How was the illustration used:
Hardcover Children's Picture Book

How did you make this work:
I was provided with original documents of plans and drawings for some of London's best known structures. I responded to the brief using David Long’s writing as a guide, using a combination of drawing, collage, traditional print methods and bright colours, to bring this project to life. My aim was to create vibrant yet elegant illustrations with something new to see each time you turn the page.
