Ben Tallon
Dr.Martens Stand For Something, boot collaboration.

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
Dr.Martens approached me to work with them to create a unique pair of their iconic oxblood boots, embracing their campaign slogan 'Stand For Something.' Bringing the boots to life in a way that would create an appetite for not just the product, but for rich artwork, design and illustration among fans of the brand and those unfamiliar with Dr.Martens alike.

How was the illustration used:
The boots were a one-of-a-kind design, photographed by Dr.Martens and used in a feature interview across digital and print platforms, discussing causes, standing for the things I care about and embracing the individuality that has ensured the brand has remained relevant over many transforming decades.

How did you make this work:
Remaining sympathetic to what was already an accomplished, iconic canvas, paints, inks, brushes, pens and spray paint on the boots formed the energetic, raw blend of illustration, hand lettering and mark making. The awkward shape necessitated careful consideration of the way the mediums behaved on the leather, stitching and soles. Punk heritage referenced in a contemporary style.
