Why did you make this work:
This was a print commissioned by new print shop venture Room Fifty, which is a curated site selling prints by 50 selected artists. I was free to create whatever I thought would be a good fit for the site and I wanted to make something dark, comic and bold. I wanted something that would look great in a contemporary space as a large scale print, a dense image that rewarded repeated looks.

How did you make this work:
I thought a lot about the structure of this image since I knew it was going to be neutral in colour and wanted the scene to have a feeling of tension and release - I think the heavy black pushes the viewer to the upper central part of the image creating a claustrophobic sensation which is relieved by the grey space parsing out the black.
