Created by Members – February

Here at the AOI we advise and support our members daily on anything relating to the business of illustration. We also proudly promote them on our social channels and our Folios.

Constantly amazed by the talent and creativity of our members, we decided to bring you a showcase which compiles a selection of striking projects that caught our eye this month.

Personal or commissioned, these illustrations celebrate international festivities, encapsulate complicated concepts or are transformed into valuable items for all to enjoy. Dive in and follow these illustrators online by clicking on their names!

Cyan Lin

This Lunar New Year, Cyan Lin graced our screens with this great poster celebrating the year of the Ox. We particularly enjoy the character design and sophisticated colour palette.

Osheen Siva

This month, Osheen Siva revealed a new limited edition vinyl cover for Nova Twins Music in collaboration with Dr Martens. This project is part of ‘Voices for the Unheard’, which features a selection of alternative POC artists and work towards raising funds for The Black Curriculum – an NGO that works on addressing the lack of black British history in the UK curriculum.

A great project with stunning graphics, for a very important cause.

Pigeon | Kamila Krol

The “Slavic Mythology” is a project that started as an online series and has now been finalised as a self-published, hand-crafted art book. Linear drawings reveal exquisitely dark illustrations, making us think of spells and conjurings.

Kamila expands: “This publication introduces 16 folklore creatures (some of them well known, some of them almost forgotten) and is probably one of few Slavic projects like this in English. It features my illustrations and original research-based writing. Each book is made by hand and bound with string, passing on old beliefs and folk stories.”

Harry Woodgate

Harry was commissioned by the University of Hertfordshire to create an illustration celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month. It’s very much 6 illustrations into one, bursting with vibrancy and celebration.

What we enjoy the most about this piece? Its composition, diversity of characters and, of course, its use of colour!

Daniel Battams

Daniel shared with us this new personal project – inspired by his first trip to Tokyo in 2019, he created this set of illustrated prints capturing the fun, energy and colour of this fascinating city.

” I love how Tokyo feels so intense and chaotic, but peaceful and calm, at the same time. The prints are hand drawn from photos I took during the day and at night.”

Luisa Jung

Luisa Jung’s debut picture book ‘Rolf, der Bücherheld’ (Rolf, the Book Hero) has been released. This book based on a story by Heidi Viherjuuri, is about how we need friendship, solidarity, courage and determination to get through times of crisis together.

The book playfully mixes collage with hand painted drawings. We want to be part of this world!
