As creatives are allowed to leave their WFH set-ups, many are cautiously returning to their studio spaces, or even looking for one. In a time when the right working space is so importance, we want to go back to our pre-pandemic task of compiling the fullest list of studio spaces in the UK. If you have any suggestions of spaces (particularly in the south, west and east of the UK) let us know.
In the meantime, there are loads of workspace providers out there – from the massive to the bespoke solution. We’ve been in touch with one provider- who have a great offer available to AOI Members.
Artistic Spaces was set up in 2010 with the aim of making workspace affordable – the founders were graduates of St Martins and wanted to be able to run their practice from somewhere not only inspiring, but affordable too. Artistic Spaces now operates across London with around 200 units ranging in size from single studios to larger spaces that may suit groups of creatives.
Artistic Spaces have a new building in Brent Cross (Oxgate House), NW2 7HU which is currently being developed and studios will be coming available from July 2020 (see below for details of prices on this). They also have spaces in Acton, Bermondsey, Hackney and Peckham.
Juliana Futter, an illustrator and animator has been based out of Warwick Works Artistic Spaces for just over two years. Having worked with brands such as The Wing, Medium, It’s Nice That, AIGA and the Design Museum Juliana produces work as a freelancer 3 days a week.
“Currently I work in a desk space in Warwick Works spaces in Hackney Downs with a mixture of other illustrators, writers and film makers.
Working freelance as an illustrator can be quite solitary work and this mix makes a great environment as working with and around people with such diverse backgrounds really helps develop creatively and creates a network of support and advice that I have found to be really invaluable.

Hackney Downs is a brilliant area for creative working as there are various art galleries, restaurants, gym and yoga spaces as well as other artists and business owners.”

AOI Members can receive 1 months free rent at Oxgate House.
The small studios (73sq/ft approx ) all start at £175pm plus £37pcm service charge (No VAT to pay, No Business Rates).
For a 140sq/ft studio you would be looking at £350pcm plus £53.00 service charge.
Artistic Spaces would structure rental/service charges to suit on a case by case basis.
